Wool-ease T&Q is a super bulky yarn, usually knit on size 11-13 needles. If I read it correctly, you are using size 8 needles, which are considerably smaller and might account for why your cables are so tight. Just a thought. <br />Third. Blanket looks amazing so far! Really beautiful! This would have to be on my bucket list too.
